Poonam Bhagat

Poonam Bhagat launched her label TAIKA in 1991 when there were only a fistful of designers and a very nascent and niche market and within 3 years she was supplying to all the high end boutiques that existed pan India . She has done many shows since her first in 1994 , within the country and abroad , the last one was on top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris in October last year . She has been on the board of the Fashion Design Council of India for two consecutive terms . She has participated in Fashion Weeks every season and has also actively been a key member in their curation.

Her label retails from all the high end designer boutiques pan India and is present online on a number of portals making her an extremely well known and revered label across the country . She has also  sold her collections to Milan , Rome , London , New York , Florida , Johannesburg, Oslo , Singapore and Tokyo .

One of her most interesting projects was designing costumes for the entire cast of the French  ‘Opera Lafayettes’ rendition of Sir Thomas Moore's ' Lallah Rookh ', performed in Washington DC and New York City, which was much lauded by the press including The Washington Post and The New York Times .Bollywood celebrities Sonam Kapoor , Karishma Kapoor , Neha Dhupia have worn her outfits while Deepika Padukone , Udita Goswami , Mugdha Ghose , Lisa Hayden and Neha Dhupia among others have walked the ramp in TAIKA .

Poonam Bhagat has been one of the founding members of The Earth Foundation, organising fashion shows for fundraisers at the German , Turkish , Slovenian and French Embassies with huge successes . Having walked out of a marriage to become successfully economically self sufficient. with nothing but a bag 23 years ago , she has also been a motivational speaker at The White Ribbon Alliance for safe motherhood , CRY , Swasthya and Women of India Summit, addressing womens’ lack of self esteem and the fear of not being able to walk away from situations that cripple them .

Environmentally conscious in her use of natural fabrics, travelling as a passion and being a closet poet, Poonam Bhagat is a woman who inspires in her life and designs.
